PAPER ART

every so often, something across my eyes that really astounds me. more often than not, it is rooted in simplicity and is transformed into something so captivating and beautiful that i'm actually in awe. allow me to introduce you to yulia brodskaya. this russian born artist who now resides in the UK is an expert at "quilling", a form of art that basically uses paper as the medium to create intricate and decorative works of design. the way yulia brings dimension and graphical elements (such as font in the negative space) in her work with simple strips of paper is unlike something I have ever seen before. and honestly, if I have seen it before, it's definitely not as good as this.

i have absolutely no affiliation to yulia, but I'm definitely an admirer of her work. as you can see from these samples (photos courtesy of artyulia.com), yulia has garnered the attention of ad agencies and has been commissioned to do some big time ads. please check out her website to see more of her work (especially the illustration - PAPERgraphic section) to appreciate more of her talented offerings.

yulia's work reminds me of the simple, yet complex beauty of art forms such as photomosaics, abstract paintings and even stop motion animation. sometimes a little imagination and ingenuity can easily make you look clever.

de Jesus (can barely even make a paper airplane). out.
