JERSEY WHORES

okay, i admit it.  i really enjoy this show.  it's like a train wreck that is so disastrous that you wouldn't give it proper justice if you didn't at least give a peek at it.  it has become my latest guilty pleasure and i'm not even ashamed to admit it.  watching these overpaid, talentless yet amusing "douche canoes" with a tongue in cheek humor perhaps makes me feel better about myself.  maybe the guys have P90x bodies, maybe they have "fresher" clothes, maybe saying the word "three" without the letter "h" is cool, but ultimately watching them parade the streets of Miami on a typical day on a semi-scripted show still makes me look an effin genius.  and therein lies the charm of the show...

though these characters lived a blessed life of partying and fame, deep down your envy only goes so far when you realize that you are actually pretty fortunate that you aren't like them at all.  yes, the joke is on me...their wallets get fatter as people like myself continue to watch, but i'm still glad that on the scale of evolution, i'm a little closer to the man on the right than the gorilla on the left.  oh jersey shore - looking past the fist pumping and the GTL, i'm just glad that i have enough wits about me to even get the joke.

DO YOU SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING?

i regularly get asked about what kinds of photography sites i look at for the latest news, reviews and recommendations.  if i'm looking at lenses and bodies, the first site i attack is one of mr. ken rockwell.  for years, ken rockwell has managed to be honest, straight forward and direct about what you really NEED versus what you WANT.  he's also managed to be very thorough with his reviews and actually posts online guides for camera bodies in case flipping through an operator's manual isn't your bag.  ken is somewhat biased for Nikon SLRs, but he isn't one to ignore the virtues of Canon, as he willingly admits that his Canon point and shoot is in fact one of his favorite cameras.
